This Saturday (Nov 5th) The Human Rights Initiative will be hosting a concert and art auction and we are thrilled to be one of only a select few participating artists. We contribute to a number of charity art events each year but this one is a little different. Each artist was paired with a former client of HRI and given the task of interpreting their experiences and I assure you, we did not take this task lightly. Our work has frequently centered around a sense of “place” and that’s where we began. From there we strove to embody the notion of a “safe” place, a piece of a former existence and a window into the now. Over the last two years we have also experimented with the idea of taking something as static and ubiquitous as photography and making it into something more tactile, tangible and three dimensional. The timing couldn’t be more perfect and we’re both very excited to present our first Suitcase “book-type-object” which we’ve titled, “In Search of a Safe Place.”
This piece will be on display for one evening only before going home to some lucky bidder on Saturday night. The event is being held at Life in Deep Ellum and tickets are available here.
